When I was a kid, I really like Punakawan because they are the only ORIGINAL characters from Indonesia (Javanese shadow puppets specifically), while the other characters are taken from outside (India respectively) with local names, including Ghatotkacha. That's why I like Garudayana and your re-designs of Punakawan.
I'm just wondering why Semar isn't their dad?? Semar should be Gareng, Petruk, and Bagong's father or step-father (not their step-grandfather) so that people wouldn't confuse with the real story (and then Semar could transform into Bathara Ismaya -that would be COOL). But it's alright, your story is still nice though. Adding another Indonesian elements like Bodies Canyon from Tana Toraja is a very good idea also, it should be noted that Indonesia has a lot of interesting cultures.

Garudayana memang keluar dari pakem pewayangan tradisional. Dalam Garudayana saya sebisa mungkin tidak melibatkan elemen dewa2/batara, tapi lebih menyoroti tokoh2 pewayangan dalam sudut pandang yang berbeda.
Tentang Semar, saya memiliki pandangan bahwa Semar usianya seharusnya sekitar 60-80 tahun... nah sementara usia 'wajar' untuk putra semar yang berusia 60 tahun tadi setidaknya berusia sekitar 30 tahun.
Jadi untuk mendapatkan image Trio Punakawan yang lebih muda usianya, maka saya mengambil jarak dengan Semar sebagai 'kakek angkat'.
